I just completed my 6psi JRSC install on my ?00 Civic Si last nite. I started it up and everything seemed to work fine. Warmed it up and topped all the fluids. i took it for a short cruise (about five miles) and everything seemed to be okay. Pulled back into the garage since i was tired. This morning, i took it out and was cruising for about 10 miles. When i stomped on it, it pulled to about 5k then lost power. The engine died on me! I pulled over and the car wouldn't start again. It just cranked, but one time it sound like it wanted to kick over. But that was it.

When i got it home, i pulled the plugs. They looked normal. I tried cranking with the plug on the wire to see if i'm getting a spark, but didn't see a spark. I swapped my MSD6BTM and reinstalled the stock coil, cap and wires to see if that was the problem. Still no spark. I have fuel and compression, so it must be the spark

I don't think it has anything to do with the JRSC install cuz the kit doesn't have anything with ignition involved. I checked the harness and connectors, everything seems fine. Since i JUST installed the JRSC and had the MSD unit for about two months, it would lead to suspect the JRSC, but it has no relation to ignition, correct?

I'm not an expert with electronics but i went through the troubleshoot for the Ignition Control Module (ICM) or i think some call the ignitor. All the voltage and continuity checks where fine except the blue tach wire check. That wire deadend at the distributor connector. It says if everything checks okay to replace the ICM. Could the BTM have blown the ICM out? I think i've read somewhere that this has happened.

Before i go out and spend $180 for this part, does anyone have any other suggestions of what else i should check? Or HOW to check the ICM? The Helms manual only says to do the checks above and if it's good then replace ICM. I'm wondering if i should just pull my MSD stuff out and tow it to the dealer. Think they will cover it under warranty since the JRSC is not ignition related?

P.S. I also installed a boost gauge and a/f meter. They work fine, so that shouldn't be the problem. I didn?t get any CEL light either

Sorry for the long post, but wanted to be as detailed as possible. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Well if you can get it checked out under warantee by a dealer...that would be my first choice!!...if you cant do that then the two things I would check is the coil and the Ignitor....if you have a friend that has the same car....swap over the parts and see whats failed...thats the best way to go....the ignitor is expensive and not returnable at the dealer...so do your best to make sure its that before you buy it

If it helps any...i had the exact problem you did and mine ended up being the ICM. If you tested power to the blue and white wire and didn't get anything, then it has to be that module. Identical to my problem. Symptoms are the same...and i did all the same checks as you... mine gave me intermittent problems though. It started by stalling under normal driving and then it would be fine the next day. I went on with this for about a week and then finally, it cut off on me in a parking lot...lucky me. But your rite, the part cost me about 180 from dealer. Im lucky it was the rite part. As far as the MSD's concerned, i'm convinced that's what fried the ICM. Cuz my install worked for a good week or more...and then after the failure took place. I sent mine back to MSD. I know it works well on most peeps cars, but mine doesnt like it very much. Anyways, good luck and hope i help a little.

My MSD coil has failed once and so has my BTM. I hear there are a lot of problems with all their stuff.

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully it is just the ICM. If it solves the problem, i think i'm gonna move my relay wire to another power source. I think the less wires tapped into the ICM power wire the better, since it seems to be a pretty delicate unit. The relay clicking on and off must put some kind of stress to ICM.
